< NLem xarpU‑a, academic loan of
< Koi Ἅρπυι‑α, of unknown origin

The LMLem word was xàrpU‑yr, which would have given NLem **xarp‑a, homonymous with the word for ‘hook’. Therefore the word was re-made from the Koi.
