Constellation Shark (zmÌsk.)
The Shark was named by some of the first Europeans to sail the southern oceans: zoologists who collected hitherto unknown species. This constellation commemorates a shark attack that was warded off with a ruse involving a Jaguar, a Chilean Flamingo, a South American Fur Seal, and a Loom and Shuttle, all of which were also placed among the stars.
The other constellations introduced by European explorers are the Bridge, the Elephant, the Hummingbird, the Ivory Tower, the Kangaroo, and the Thimble.
The Shark is located in the region of our constellations Phoenix and Tucana, near the southern end of the River, swimming north.
